Standing up for comedy

Standing up for comedy

So last night was my big night of comedy. My first ever #standup  show/gig. I performed for 2 hours straight. It was a blast.

Some of you asked if I would be making a recording, and I did. There is an audio file in the works. Once I have it, I will upload it to SoundCloud and share.

Thanks to all those on Google+ who are always so encouraging, and who were there in spirit. I highly appreciated all the support I had, even from those who couldn’t make it in person.

  1. Yep. 2 hours. They gave me a 2 hour slot, and I went through a bunch of ideas on how I wanted to approach that. One thought was to do a 50 minute show, 10 minute intermission, and repeat the 50 minute show for another audience. But in the end, I felt like I was making excuses and trying to use crutches for not going all out. So, I went all in for 2 hours straight, with no intermission. Crazily enough, my first draft of the show was about 4 hours long. I stopped at 3 hours, and was like, “This is ridiculous, I need to sit down.”

  2. Yes Jim Hanson, it was exhausting. Especially because I did a 3-hour version at home Tuesday, then recut, and did a 3-hour version on Wednesday at home, and then finally got it under 2-hours the morning of the performance at home. It was ridiculous trying to squeeze everything down to what I needed.

  3. Wow! 2 hours! That is awesome Nathan Weaver ! I am so happy for you and love to hear when dreams come true to those who work for them. I bet you are on a high that can’t be beat right now. That’s how I felt after my very first art exhibit. Congrats again and have a great weekend!!

  4. Wowsers, Nathan Weaver , that is simply awesome! I’m so happy for you. Looking forward to the audio.

Get recordings. Make money off YouTube channels.

    Most importantly: Have a blast!

  5. Congrats! I was thinking of you all day. Sorry I couldn’t make it! I’m in awe of our accomplishment. I recall how long and horrid 5 min speeches at school were, so filling 2 hrs seems an impossible task, let alone making people laugh the whole time! (I do assume you got some laughs? 😛 Of course you did!)
